"Business for Plovdiv" and our stance on the actions of Plovdiv Municipality with regards to a German simulation program about optimization and organization of city traffic

On June 22, 2018, “Business for Plovdiv” sent an official request to the Plovdiv Municipality administration, regarding a simulation program by the German company “PTV Group”, which purpose is to organize and optimize city traffic. We requested a clarification on the following concrete questions:

  • To know exactly how much money was spent on the development and delivery of the software;

  • Does Plovdiv Municipality have the necessary software specialists for the job;

  • Will this product be used in the development of the new ‘Master Plan’ for traffic organization in Plovdiv;

It is clear from Plovdiv Municipality’s answer to us that the municipal budget for the program product is BGN 28,642 leva (VAT excluded) and that apparently no one plans to use it in the development of the new ‘Master Plan’ for organization of the traffic in Plovdiv.

The question remains: why were the funds from the municipal budget spent and how the traffic in our city will be relieved in the interest of the citizens and guests?

The same software product was successfully implemented in the city of Varna and it would certainly be helpful in Plovdiv as well.

“Business for Plovdiv” sees an obvious lack of succession in the municipal management and, given the heavy traffic in Plovdiv, the inactivity of the Municipality in this particular case is detrimental to the taxpayers. Our position on the matter is that the Municipality of Plovdiv should have a clear commitment and expeditiousness when it comes to globally tested programs for optimization and organization of city traffic.
